GGL Colin Schreiner Intro Post

My name is Colin Schreiner, and I will be one of the Global Glimpse Leaders on our trip to Costa Rica! I am looking forward to meeting all of you and starting our journey together!

This is my third trip with Global Glimpse (I led a trip to Turriabla, Costa Rica my first year, which was an amazing trip!, and a trip to Chitre, Panama last year), and I also took a similar style of trip in high school to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands that I still look back very fondly on, so I am thankful I have the opportunity to take part as a leader! I have been very fortunate to have had the chance to travel to 21 countries so far in my life. Of those, though, I am a Bay Area native, born and raised in Silicon Valley, but I also called North Carolina home for 7 years for college (Davidson College) my work in the College Advising Corps in rural Appalachia, and grad school at UNC. I’m a big fan of stories, particularly fantasy and sci-fi stories, whether they are in book, movie, show, or video game form, and believe that the Lord of the Rings is the greatest piece of literature ever created.

I teach World History, so getting the chance through Global glimpse to travel to other places is a great way to connect to my class. And in my experience, these kinds of trips can really help drive students to strengthen their connections to their own communities once they get back home. The journey never ends!

¡Me llamo Colin Schreiner y seré uno de los líderes de Global Glimpse en nuestro viaje a Costa Rica! ¡Tengo muchas ganas de conoceros a todos y de comenzar este viaje juntos!

Este es mi tercer viaje con Global Glimpse (dirigí un viaje a Turriabla, Costa Rica, en mi primer año, ¡que fue increíble!, y un viaje a Chitré, Panamá, el año pasado), y también hice un viaje similar en la secundaria a Ecuador y las Islas Galápagos que aún recuerdo con mucho cariño, ¡así que estoy agradecido de tener la oportunidad de participar como líder! He tenido la gran suerte de haber podido viajar a 21 países hasta ahora en mi vida. De ellos, aunque soy nativo del Área de la Bahía, nací y crecí en Silicon Valley, también consideré a Carolina del Norte mi hogar durante 7 años por la universidad (Davidson College), mi trabajo en el College Advising Corps en la zona rural de los Apalaches y mis estudios de posgrado en la UNC. Soy un gran fanático de las historias, en particular de las de fantasía y ciencia ficción, ya sea en forma de libro, película, serie o videojuego, y creo que El Señor de los Anillos es la mejor obra literaria jamás creada.

Enseño Historia del Mundo, así que tener la oportunidad de viajar a otros lugares a través de Global Glimpse es una excelente manera de conectar con mi clase. Y, según mi experiencia, este tipo de viajes realmente pueden ayudar a los estudiantes a fortalecer sus vínculos con sus propias comunidades una vez que regresan a casa. ¡El viaje nunca termina!
