YOUTH Visiting the youth on the last day

Glimpsers and Escuela Santa Rosa 5th Grade Class

Today, on our final day in Costa Rica, we originally planned a reflection and closing day, but the weather was nice: sunny and hot, but thankfully not too hot to walk up the hills. Plans changed, and we visited Escuela Santa Rosa. Several days before going to the school, we prepared activities, including cultural exchanges.

We formed three groups and did movement, arts and crafts, and language. We taught the kids the English alphabet and words associated with each letter, and they in turn taught us how to say the same words and equivalent letters in Spanish. In our last effort to keep the kids engaged, we started a conga line, then headed back to the classroom to say goodbye. For active movement, we played games like red light, green light, duck, duck, goose, and soccer. For arts and crafts, we showed the kids how to make fortune tellers. As the final LDDs, Anaysha and Samantha would like to close off by saying that the memories made in Turrialba are truly irreplaceable, despite complaints or problems. The friendships we’ve made along this bumpy journey will last a lifetime. We’re looking forward to building on these friendships and, hopefully, staying in contact with our GGLs, Michele and Rob, and our PCs, Emelia and Memo.

We then returned home and did multiple closing activities, reflecting on the entire trip and spreading Big Love to everyone. On our last afternoon together, we reminisced about the moments we shared as we made final memories.

Thank you for tuning in, and we’ll see you soon.
