DAY 2: Orientation & fun

Pura Vida, this is Talia and Nia, the very first wonderful, fantastic, and humble Global Glimpse Lideres del Dia!!

We started the day with everyone at breakfast on time. It was a buffet style with a selection of gallo de pinto, eggs, cereral, yogurt, fresh fruit, bread, as well as coffee, milk, and orange juice. Yum!!!!

Then we had a barrio (neighborhood) tour of San Rafael where we walked and saw a ton of cows and mooed at them… it mooed back and we got really hyped. Next, we glimpsed at an absolutely gorgeous, stunning, wonderful view of the town.

We then walked to a school and saw where the children of the neigborhood learn and the community funded soccer field where we saw some kids. There’s this joke we have back home that is “six-seven” with a hand motion. On the field, we did it to the kid, and he responded with “seis-siete.” It was fun to see the connections between our culture and theirs, and how memes pass through language barriers, allowing us to communicate with the kids. The Glimpsers also had a handstand challenge where Petra won by a LANDSLIDE.

We then walked to a mercadito (small market) where we struggled with the exchange rate, and had to negotiate or group up to pay. Great learning experience and the snacks were amazing, delicious, and interesting. Then, it was back to the casita (place that we are residing) where we ate lunch of porkchops with rice, potatoes, salad, along with appetizing and refreshing iced tea.

Afterwards, we had free time where we all came together without planning it. All 21 of us lounged at the pool…until Marco Polo arrived and we played an intense game. Afrerwards, we obtained some henna from the great Lucia – what a planner and queen – where all of the girls passed it around and created some wonderful art.

Once we were all washed up, we had some free time to enjoy some smaller groups with certain activities to choose from – like arts and crafts, pool (the game), cards, friendship bracelets, and twister. I (Talia) did twister where we had an epic game that lasted an hour. We were definitly tangled up and it ended in a four way tie because everyone refused to drop. Additionally we could play soccer which I (Nia), played with others and the niñito (little kid). It was fun and a beautiful game before it started pouring.

Finally, we came together for dinner where we had chickpeas and chicken soup, rice, and salad with delicious pineapple juice. And we had our nightly meeting where we (Talia and Nia), passed down the Leader of the Day “torch” to our next Leaders after an art showcase and a beatboxing and dancing session for their talents.

Pura Vida,

Talia y Nia
