I began my day by watching the new Superman movie, bidding farewell to my family, and heading to the BART station. I arrived at the airport at 7:45 PM. Gradually, students and their families began to arrive, all brimming with excitement for the upcoming trip. Some parents appeared nervous, while others were eager and even started engaging in conversations, forming new bonds with other families.

After TSA, students searched for something to eat, and we waited until our 11:00 PM boarding time. I must say, I wouldn’t recommend overnight flights unless you’re a heavy sleeper lol.
We arrived in Costa Rica, and after nearly three hours dealing with immigration and currency exchange, we finally met our program coordinator and boarded the bus. Some students enjoyed the scenic views, but I couldn’t, as I was dozing off from sheer exhaustion.

From the moment we arrived at our accommodation here in Costa Rica, the students were so excited. They immediately started taking in all the greenery around us pointing out plants, listening to the birds, and a few even mentioned how fresh and clean the air felt. One of them literally said, “This is the cleanest air I’ve ever breathed.” It made me laugh because… same.
They loved their cabins too there was a lot of exploring, claiming beds, and just getting settled in. It was fun watching them get comfortable and start making the space their own.
After settling in, we all had lunch together, and that’s when things really started to click. Even without their phones, the group dove into conversation like they’d known each other for more than just a day. They were teaching each other card games, laughing, and just genuinely enjoying being together. It was one of those moments where you can feel the group starting to bond.

Later on, we had our nightly meeting a chance to reflect, check in, and talk about what’s coming up. And after that, instead of going straight to bed, a bunch of the students stuck around to hang out, play more games, and keep chatting. There was a lot of excitement in the air about tomorrow’s adventure. You could tell everyone was curious and already picturing what it’s going to be like.
By the time they finally started winding down, there was this quiet buzz that mix of being tired but also super eager for what’s ahead. If this is how day one went, I can already tell it’s going to be an amazing trip.
