Hello everyone!
We’re Dani and Julio, the Program Coordinators, and we’re excited to be writing the very first blog post of the program.
Please feel free to leave as many comments as you’d like! Don’t worry if they don’t appear right away, they need to be reviewed by the website before they can be posted publicly. We’ll be approving and publishing comments every day or every other day, so keep them coming!
Last night, everyone arrived after a long day of traveling. We headed straight to our hotel in San José to get some much-needed rest.
This morning, the wake-up call came bright and early at 6:30 a.m. We enjoyed a fantastic breakfast at 7:30, where everyone could choose exactly what they wanted to eat. After breakfast, we hit the road toward Turrialba, home of our Base House. Along the way, we made a quick stop at a local supermarket so everyone could use the restroom and pick up some snacks if they wanted.
Once we arrived at the Base House, we played a few icebreaker games to learn everyone’s names before sitting down for lunch. Our first Costa Rican meal was the traditional casado, which included rice, beans, salad, chicken with vegetables, sweet fried plantains, and fresh blackberry juice.
In the afternoon, we spent a few hours in orientation seminars, where we went over the program rules and gave everyone the opportunity to sign up for the days they would like to be a Leader of the Day.
After some free time and our first taste of Costa Rica’s afternoon rain, we had dinner, a delicious squash soup served with rice and plantain chips.
We wrapped up the evening with our very first Nightly Meeting so everyone could get familiar with how they work throughout the program. Now it’s time for showers, some well-earned rest, and getting ready for another exciting day tomorrow!
See you in the next update!
Dani & Julio
