Waterfall and Fun day

Before we begin today’s blog, we would like to inform all families that tomorrow at 7-8 pm Eastern Time you will be getting a phone call from your loved ones. Please pick up even if you do not recognize the phone number as it would make our day better.

Today, we woke up to the sun , which was so nice since it had been cloudy. Today was our fun day going to a waterfall for the first time. We took a short bus ride through the beautiful countryside to arrive at the waterfall. We had a wonderful time getting to explore the new environment and enjoyed a nice 30 minute hike through the rainforest. Almost on schedule, the rain began again as we began the trek down the steep mountain side.

Though we all got soaking wet and we went through tires and mud at the end we were overjoyed at the beauty of the catarata. While we were there we took nice dip in the waterfall while it was raining and had a nice scenic view to take many nice photos. While we were coming back the skies opened up and it started to rain once more, however, we were so excited from the view the hike felt shorter.

When we came back we were able to dive into three Costa Rican dishes and everyone was feasting with the nice sight of the mountain in the background. Once we arrived back to the base house we had a guest speaker come to talk to us about environmental justice and the effects of tourism on the environment. As an activity, we rolled played a situation as a local community members, Costa Rican government panel and the company that wants to build a hotel. We were then able to have a debate between two groups about tourism and the local communities and were able to understand the two viewpoints that come with tourism and sustainability.

After the speaker, we had dinner and dove into a nice plate of nachos which then led to the nightly meeting. This ultimately ended our day as Leader del Dia as we passed the torch onto our fellow Glimpsers.
