Visiting Turrialba…la campiña azucarera

Hello kiddos…. This is today’s recap….an early wake up and an early bfast. Today we had a busy schedule, and the main goal was to be on time to catch the public bus. After bfast we did our mental warm up, just to have a little bit of context…and then…the hike to the bus stop…..600 meters…..all the way up hill…. The merciless hill took us by surprise, nobody was expecting such terror….up hill and gravel….and sunny, suddenly the heat slapped us as a friendly reminder that we’re on the tropics now. We finally made it to the bus stop….we wait for 20 long minutes, some of us did a new friend, a local guy who also was waiting for the bus, he was carrying he’s electric guitar 🎸 and the amplifier, he was wearing a Megadeth shirt and a jacket 🧥…we hope he played well. The bus arrived and the 25 of us jumped in, everyone was surprised of see such a big group. The ride was very nice, we had the chance to spot Talamanca Mountain Range, and Chirripó peak, the highest point in Costa Rica…almost 12000 feet. Once in Turrialba we gathered at the central park where we took some very nice pics…. You’ll see them later, we had a little bit of history and some fun facts about Turrialba. Then we went to “las ventas”, which is a farmer’s market, this is a tradicional activity where all the farmers of the area gather and sell their products directly, we saw mangos, watermelon, onions, cheese, fish, coconut and it’s water and a delicious cajeta made with coco and caramel from the “dulce de tapa” from sugar cane. After this experience we get an ice cream to finally walk back to the bus station.

We did some activities once back to the Base House. Also we had our LDD seminar and we chose our first ones…..4 brave warriors who will help us tomorrow.

After dinner….amazing nachos, we had our first nightly meeting which was very nice and succeed. Everything flowed perfectly and now we can’t wait to see what challenges we’ll be facing tomorrow!!
