Trip to Downtown Turrialba

Hello, it’s Faezah and Anjel!

Today we explored downtown Turrialba. We took the public bus there. The weather was extreme today compared to other days; it rained heavily. We are in the rainy season. Most students didn’t have rain gear, so we stopped at a department store and grabbed umbrellas and ponchos. Afterward, we went to the park and met up with Memo’s friend (in-country program coordinator), who was selling necklaces and bracelets. We then headed to the thrift shop to buy clothes for our upcoming project and any items we wanted. Later on, we headed to a bakery with a train as its dining area. To end it off, we headed home on the bus.

It’s nice to immerse ourselves in the community and take part in it the way locals do.

Hi, it’s Faezah! I had a wonderful time being one of the “lideres del día”. First, I woke up earlier than usual at 6:30 am. Angel and I made sure the other glimpsers were awake by 7 am. We went to downtown Turrialba. We learned more about places in the city, like the church, how important the soccer field was to the community, and more. I felt so loved every time we got to talk to locals; their friendliness and warm energy were so welcoming. Throughout the day, I made sure to keep the group hydrated with reminders to drink water, keep to the side of the road, and more. Overall, I’m so happy I got the chance to lead the group for a day with Anjel, and I am grateful for this new experience!

Hey, it’s Anjel. Today, being the leader was so fun and a wonderful experience, and it never would’ve been that easy without my partner, Faezah. We had to wake up at 6:30 to wake the others, make sure they ate breakfast, and get to the bus stop on time. While in Turrialba, we learned about its history and deepened our understanding of where we were. The community is so unified, and that’s my favorite thing about today’s experience. Being a leader today, I was able to grow individually and practice leading a group through a rough day like this. I believe Faezah and I did a great job leading our group.
