Travel day/Robertos special day

Todays activities were a little different than usual, because we were celebrating the first birthday of the trip. The night before the group planned a way to get up early (5:50am), to sing Happy Birthday to Roberto. (Dont worry Robertos family, we made sure he had a special day, fast pass for the meal line)

Then we all got ready to head to the pool one last time to dip our feet in and enjoy the hotel view of the carribean sea.

Then we all packed and took our stuff to breakfast where we had a very dominican meal with platters like eggs with cheese, mangu, fried cheese, fried salame and mashed potatoes with pickled onions.

Then everyone went to the bathroom and got in the bus (no showers were taken). After 3 hours on the road vibing to music, we all arrived safely back to the Rancho where we quickly got ready to have lunch, which consisted of the usual rice, pork, and fruit. After lunch we head back on the bus for a 10 minute ride to the school specialized for deaf students. We meet Beatriz Leonardo and her daughter Narieli who educated us about the process of the start of the program. They informed us that they are of the Damas Salesianas, who volenteer to help those in need. They also told us that they are working towards hiring another teacher for the deaf students to add a computer science class and to expand the school to become a K-12 school. She then taught us how to sign our name and other simple phrases like hello, goodbye, good morning, etc.

Then we went back to the friendship villa (rancho) to prep the CAP project for the next three days. We brainstromed all together on how to break ourselves into groups based on the projects, preped ourselves to be flexible and to remember why we are doing this project. Now we get some free time before dinner. HEHHEHEHE

Feliz Cumpleanos, Roberto!

Hi Teo, Hopefully you remembered some of the sign language and letters we practice at home.

We are prepping for a big birthday for Cruz tomorrow. He’s hoping he gets a call from you; we signed his bday card on your behalf.

Love you so much!

Xoxo,
