Town interactions in turrialba, costa RICA

Welcome to the adventure of our town visit,

For this morning we ate omelets with fruit and yogurt along with tea. Later on for lunch we had arroz frito con ensalda with potato chips and “piña con hierbabuena” as the beverage. We had to make it quick as we had to leave at eight forty to catch the public bus. Although the bus was a long wait, we ended up making it to turrialba.

Our first stop was to change our money into Colones. Then we stopped at the central park, our program coordinator, Memo, gave us a little history about the town area and things that didn’t exist back then. After the lesson, we walked to a bakery filled with delicious homemade Costa Rican desserts. While walking back to the bus stop, after our tour, we came across a small manmade bridges with a beautiful view of a river.

In the thrift store, Emma told me she forgot her money and I thought it was right to make everyones experience equal, so I exchanged 50 USD into 22200 Colones and gave her half. After that, I bought water, pepsi, and ankle weights for the walks as a workout. After I finished buying my items, I met up with the group at the central park near the Turrialba sign and joined the mini circle in passing a soccer ball. Memo called us over and gave us a brief history lesson on the making of the central park and a nearby hospital in Turrialba, as well as a nearby soccer field. At the bakery I bought 3 brownies (gave 2 to Ethan), 3 munchkins covered in chocolate sprinkles, and 2 empanadas de pollo. After we left while we were waiting for the bus, it started raining heavily. I ran back to the camp but the paper bag from the bakery ended up breaking and I lost my empanadas sadly. – Jose Tiru

At the start of the day, me and a group of girls woke up ealier to see the sunrise. Although we didn’t see much, the experiance was such a bonding moment for us. However, you can never go wrong with seeing the higher view of the houses and mountains. Its a incredible view and created a calm energy for the long day ahead. During the bus ride back to the base, I got to know another “Mama Tica”, known as the host natives from Costa Rica. She recognized us from being brought by global glimpse and throughout the bus ride, we shared a conversation on my experiences. She wasn’t one of our hosts of this trip but she has a welcoming presences in wanting to know more about life outside of Costa Rica. The people here have recieved me with open hands, open minds, and overall open hearts. I couldnt be more grateful as well as the students on this trip have made memories with one another. Not only that but moments that have shown there growth and those reading should be proud of each and every one of them. – Adriana MC

When coming back as said before the rain was a experiences none of us will forget. All of us ended up soaked but filled with stories to tell. It wasn’t expected but things happen for a reason and it brought all of us a little closer.

At the end of the night we all gathered together to watch a movie in the common area. Overall, the day as all the other days brought new memories, different experiences, and working as community.
