Where are you from?
I’m originally from Italy, but I’ve lived in the U.S. for most of my adult life. (Springfield, MA)
What are your strengths and weaknesses on this trip?
My strengths are perseverance and my ability to get things done no matter the challenge. My weakness? I sometimes struggle to set boundaries and put myself first.
What do you enjoy most about traveling?
Traveling gives me perspective I wouldn’t otherwise have. It reminds me how much we all have in common, often more than we realize.
What are you most looking forward to on this trip?
Being in an environment that isn’t centered around tourism—and having the chance to connect with authentic Costa Rican families. I’m also excited to watch our students develop new skills and confidence.
Window seat or aisle seat?
Toni: Window, I love to see departure and arrival.
What’s a dish you tried while traveling that blew your mind?
Spicy noodles for breakfast in Thailand—it was unexpected but delicious.
Have you ever experienced culture shock? How did you handle it?
Yes—when I first moved to the U.S. I felt it deeply. I coped by diving right in and embracing everything new.
What’s one thing you always pack and why?
I always bring a little pouch filled with spiritual mementos I’ve collected from different places. And of course—my positive attitude and zest for life!
