Hello Families and Friends!
GGLs Iris and Brian here with some updates from our fun-filled day…
Today was our first full day in Panama! We were up by 6 AM, and enjoyed a great breakfast at our hotel in Panama City. Then we got right on the bus for the short trip to the famous Panama Canal! We were lucky enough to arrive at the iconic waterway just as a big ship was going through. We went up to the observation deck to watch the magic of the canal in action, and then we piled into the movie theater.

Here, we learned more about how this man-made marvel works, and about the history behind it. We watched through 3D glasses in the IMAX theater, taking in beautiful images of the country of Panama, and getting a deeper understanding of the work that went into the canal’s creation. It was a fascinating experience, although Morgan Freeman’s soothing voice may have lulled a couple people to sleep near the end (we won’t name names… they know who they are).

Then it was back on the bus for a long ride to Las Tablas! During the trip, the Glimpsers queued up some of their favorite songs, singing along on the way. We made a quick stop for lunch, and then arrived at our hotel. After getting settled in and playing games in the common room, the students got together for a leadership seminar, and then enjoyed a delicious spaghetti dinner.

Finally, it was time for the first nightly meeting, where the Program Coordinators passed the torch to tomorrow’s student leaders, and they got us all prepped and excited for another packed day ahead!

The Glimpsers are hitting the HAY (foreshadowing for tomorrow’s activity???), but they look forward to reading all of your comments tomorrow evening! Thanks for all of your support on our journey, and keep checking the blog for more updates!

Buenas Noches! -GGLS Iris and Brian

It looks like the big ship in the second-to-last photo is sitting low in the lock. In the last photo, it looks like that same ship has been lifted higher in the dock. Is that the Gatun dock? Was the ship being lifted to go into Gatun Lake? Was it headed southwest through Panama towards the Pacific Ocean? Just wondering…
