Hello families from back home in the US! Today was a day filled with lots of hard work and sweat, but also a day full of dedication. With teamwork, we were able to accomplish a lot of our goals for the school of Santa Ana. Our task was to help the school’s agriculture, by helping builds maseteros (flower beds), tables, and painting. And well as playing games with the kids, we were able to create a bond with them and introduce them to songs and games from the states.
A lot of our tasks involved repetitive labor which tired everyone but we persisted through laughter and music. We all cooperated with one another by taking turns as big groups, or dividing and conquering for smaller groups. The mixing of concrete took a long time and we made sure to follow closely with the masons (carpenters) who work where professional, learning how to get the sand or when to mix the mix or even how to hold the shovel correctly.
Today there wasn’t a lot of time to “have fun” because we had a lot of work to get done but we were obviously very tempted, and we were able to go to the playground in front of the school, and play soccer with the boys who had just gotten out of school. Lunch was good today, for the first time we didn’t get chicken with rice, we got pork chops and they were really yummy. Our trip is almost coming to an end, tomorrow will be another workday but after that on Wednesday, we will have a fun day and we are really looking forward that, and to bringing back all of our memories to you guys. Can’t wait! 😜
