Taking action

Hey everyone, this is Mel, Makenzie, and Jaidon; today’s Líderes del Día. Today was the first day of our Community Action Project. Our task was to cover the dirt floors with cement in one out of the three houses we aim to complete. While doing so, we kept in mind one question: “What will our Community Action Project mean to the community?” We used a quote by John Bunyan, an English writer, “You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.”, to help us find a solution to our query. As a group we found that our project would provide better health, housing stability, and assets for future generations to come.

To start the day off, we ate breakfast and headed straight to the community of Los Gajitos to begin the Community Action Project. Initially, we intended to split into five rotating groups to mix sand, concrete mixer, and water. However, we soon found that our approach wasn’t the most efficient strategy, and quickly adapted to a new one where we all worked together. There were four shovels, one pickaxe, and three buckets for us to use to mix the cement and transport up the hill to the house. We then formed an assembly line of people to send buckets of cement up and down the hill. We would shout things like “Bucket coming up!” and “Bucket going down!” to alert each other. We came close to completing the entire floor before stopping to go back to our hotel for lunch.

When we returned from lunch, we experienced a thunder and lightning storm which prevented us from being able to continue the project. Therefore, the adult leadership team finished what was left of the work, and we set home to begin writing postcards for Global Glimpse supporters. Afterwards, we enjoyed our free time unwinding together before dinner.

Ultimately, we worked hard and connected with one another on a deeper level. We  successfully completed the floor of our first house of the Community Action Project!

Big love,

Mel, Makenzie, and Jaidon 🙂

I love that quote from John Bunyan! Inspiring words to keep your team working hard and working together to complete the goal!
Sorry the weather impacted your efforts. In the end it sounds like the Glimpsers learned a lot about, “Teamwork makes a dream work”! — by John C. Maxwell
— A job well done!
>> Shout out to Jaidon who is having a great time bonding with his mates. We hear it in his voice in the last 2 calls. Hugs to all!
