Snack ,Cofee, Dance repeat!!!!!

Today, July 19, we visited Camp Bohíos, a local camp where coffee beans and cacao are grown, and where we learned how coffee and hot chocolate are made. We also explored the rich history and meaning behind these traditions. We met the locals and learned about their day to day and appriated where our products come.

The process of making coffee begins with drying the beans. Once dried, the beans are placed in a pila, a type of bowl, where they are crushed using tools called manos to remove their outer skins. After that, the beans are ground into a fine powder through which hot water is strained to make fresh and delicious coffee. They allowed us to try thier hot choclate and gave us casaba leaving a sweet and savory feeling. Sharing their history and culture wholeheartedly with us!

We also learned how chocolate is made—surprisingly, it comes from a fruit! Who would have guessed?

Today, we also visited a local store to pick up some Dominican treats. I didn’t really spend much because, honestly, I was a bit broke Yolo We spent most of our time wandering through the aisles, searching for the best snacks. The locals were incredibly kind and even recommended a few favorites. The group was super grateful, and everyone showed a lot of respect throughout the visit. We were able to finnally put our DR money to use. Personally as Isis I loved buying lemonlays and exploring the diffrent kinds of snacks. I had fun with the girls iv met and felt safe when out. Tooks lots of pictures and was even the first leader of the day. I loved buying sovineers for my family and bsf coustumizing each gift for every person. Everyone smiling ear to ear deciding what was worth taking home, ackldoging eachh of you we miss but immersing ourself in the expirence Had bus sing alongs and played games with one another. Feeling extreamly greateful and fuffilled with our day!

When we got back, we learned a few new dances, including bachata, salsa, and merengue. It was superrrr funn seeing everyone come out of their shelly try out the new dance skills. We all engaged and were willing to learn continuing to stregthen our connections and opennes to learning. Eternally greatful to all those who tuaght us today leaving us with an exitment and oppeness to continue to learn. We miss each of you! But we promise were making you proud.
