salvando a las tortugas

Today has been one of the earliest days we have had this trip, and to be completely honest it was not easy! Five in the morning. But we made our trip to Playa Venao and had a great time preparing and giving our pitch to Elise and Alexandra, the organizations representatives, p.s they loved it. Special shout out to our presenters and translators Victory, Kate, Eddy, Giana, Paola, and Jennifer.

There were three stations of work: the seawall, the turtle nursery, as well as the office area. To our suprise, the office did not have proper walls, a computer, or a million papers, there was something better, the outdoors! And one of the most beautiful offices we have seen. Within the seawall we were hoisting lumber back and forth from the beach and to the sea wall. The goal was to add a protective layer to the nursery during hightides. In tthe nursery we were immersing ourselves in the weather and all of its hardships! Our final station was reorganizing the outside office space. There, we have taken out and cleaned all the materials, and found a good amount of things to get rid of. We also wanted to share that the white boxes that are present in our photos are homes to the future turtles that will be hosted by Playa Venao.

For lunch we went to a great restaurant also in Playa Venao. We had the option of choosing chicken and beef. Most chose chicken, and the few who chose beef had to work harder because the meat was a bit tough, but also quite good. We ended the afternoon with a great presentation from Margaret, who is a conservationist in protected areas near dunes. We enjoyed listening to her explanations, insights, and research. All the trash, pollution, and injustice is a constant reminder for each of us to continue to actively participate in creating change! We did have an amazing time learning a lot about Panama and its environmental diversity.

Now, the leaders of the day would like to send a little message to our loved ones, hope you enjoy!!
