Good evening! Today, we all had to wake up at 6 AM, which was the earliest by far. For breakfast at 7 AM, we had off-brand frosted flakes and strawberries with cream prepared by Abby (which were very tasty). Then, we got on the bus at 7:45, and started our 3 hour journey to Sosua. During the bus ride we listened to some tunes through Julia´s speaker. We made it to the Batey, an immigrant community, at 11. When we got there, the little kids sang a beautiful song for us, which only a few of us understood since we don´t all speak Spanish. Then we took a tour around the community and played with the kids, whom were lively and excited to see us. After that, we talked with the community members in separate groups, and in return, they asked about our daily lives and how we live in the U.S. At the end of our time at the Batey, we had the opportunity to support their local business by purchasing their handmade, cultural jewelry. At 12:30 PM, we got back on the bus to Sosua and brought our bags into the hotel. We got ready and went to the beach at 3:30, which had some very clear water and a cliff that we could not go on (for safety purposes). We spent a very fun 2 hours at the beach until high tide came and went back to the hotel. At 6:30 we started phone calls and chilled at the pool until dinner time. We all saw a gorgeous sunset and took many photogenic pictures. Lastly we had dinner and the new leaders for tomorrow were elected.
Thanks so much for reading, goodnight – Nick & Jeremy
