Student Trip Blog

Panama Canal & Our New Home

Today began with seeing the Panama Canal, a ship being raised and transported in real time, and a movie explaining the history and significance of the Canal. Students were particularly excited to connect what they had learned at home in school to what we were seeing. They took a lot of photos and shared who they were looking forward to showing them to.

Next we had a smooth bus ride past the sugar cane fields to Chitré and the hotel that will be our home for the remainder of the trip. Students are doing a fantastic job getting comfortable with each other and making multiple new friends. They enjoyed down time and card games, a trip to the local grocery store, a local thrift store, and a delicious meal at the hotel. We took a leadership survey, discovered our individual strengths, and set goals and expectations for our time together. Each student signed up for their turn to be the Líder Del Dia (LDD, or Leader of the Day) so we can all look forward to our first student-written blog post tomorrow.
