Hey guys its us Da goats Lizbeth and Zariha! Today was officially the last day of our Global Glimpse journey, but definitely not the last journey we take together as a group. Today we woke everyone up at 7am to get ready for breakfast which was mashed potatoes, fried cheese, eggs, salami, and fruit punch with another special drink. After breakfast we had a little free time before we had to go into a program seminar in which we gave Big Love as a group. In our Big Love, we had to take one piece of paper and write our names in the middle then pass it down to everyone so they could write one Big Love about that person. When we got back our papers, we read the responses out loud. We felt really special when we saw all of the nice things that people said about us. We also wrote to our dear supporters who made this trip possible and gave them our thanks. After reflecting on our time in the program we wrote down what we wanted to Start, Continue and Stop doing when we return home to keep the Global Glimpse Spirit alive. In between our seminar activities we enjoyed a fun game of Ninja.
After we did both the seminars and evaluations we had lunch which consisted of rice, beans, fried chicken, veggies, and fruits. After everyone had filled themselves up, the group began packing for the long journey home tomorrow. At 3:30 we got ready to go and explore the city one last time. We sat on a bus without a hood and enjoyed the Dominican breeze on our way to the souvenir shops. We then got Ice cream (some opted for frozen yogurt) and sat in a park located at the city center to enjoy our cold treats and gather strength. After that, we went to a restaurant for dinner and had Dominican style pizza and enjoyed each other’s company for the last time.
We are really glad that we had the opportunity to meet new people and assimilate into a foreign environment. It was really cool to explore the city for the past 10 days and getting to see a sneak peak of true Dominican culture and the locals’ daily lives. Alongside that, having the opportunity to taste the authentic dishes cooked by the abuelas made us feel cared and loved for. We will really miss the community we made on this trip and hope to stay in touch with everyone in the near future.
