‘Nomads’ Out and About in Puerto Plata

Today, July 5th was the first day that we were able to interact with a local community. We woke up earlier than usual, at 6:00am and took the bus to Puerto Plata. Here, we interacted with a small Haitian community, integrating mainly with children.

The children were very excited to see us. When we first arrived they immediately played with our hair and asked us where we were from. The language barrier made conversations a bit challenging and also made us realize that we needed to brush up on our Spanish, however, we were still able to communicate through universal gestures like the “6, 7” trend (which many kids understood).

After eating a hearty lunch at a community member’s house we made our way to the beach! There, we swam and played volleyball with locals, making it a really fun experience. After that we had dinner, where we had several options including hamburgers, Ceasar salad, wings and pasta, super yum!! To end the night we had our nightly meeting where we passed the torch to our new leaders, Jayla and Xander.

I am glad that you guys got to spend some time with the locals. I am also very surprised to hear that the.”6,7” trend Has made it to the Dominican Republic.

We read the blog every single day, and it’s so wonderful to see all the Global Glimpse participants having such a great time. Being exposed to different cultures and ways of life is an incredible experience for our kids. Thank you to all the caretakers and staff for your dedication and for making this such a meaningful experience.
