Hey everyone! My name is Kathy Phan, and I’m a student from Silver Creek High School in the Bay Area. I am so stoked to be going on this trip, and I wanted to share a quick glimpse into who I am before we take off!

On any given day, you can find me going to concerts, playing field hockey, journaling, reading, or practicing self-care. I’m also rarely seen without my digital camera in hand, so you can definitely expect a lot of photos from this trip!
I consider myself to be a highly persistent, leadership-oriented person who loves taking advantage of every opportunity to grow. This passion has led me to some incredible conferences and organizations over the past few years of my high school career. I am a HOBY NorCal and World Leadership Congress alum, and I even had the opportunity to return and volunteer as a Junior Facilitator for HOBY NorCal recently. I’m also heavily involved with CASL as a part of their ambassador program, where I got to serve as a Meet the Pros presenter at the State Conference and attend CADA Camp at UCSB. When I’m not working with those groups, I pour a lot of my time into Interact and other extracurriculars!

I also absolutely love exploring the world and learning from different cultures. As someone who has taken every AP history course our school has to offer (including AP Human Geography, AP World History, and AP U.S. History), it is such a rad experience to see those concepts apply to the real-world journeys I embark on. My last big adventure took me to Paris for the YLUP conference hosted by EduTourism for Unity, and I know heading to the Dominican Republic is going to be just as unforgettable.
I can’t wait to learn, lead, and capture every moment in Jarabacoa!
