Journey to Sustainable Development

Hey Glimpsers!! It’s your Day 4 goated LDD’s, Donnie & Marely! Today we had an amazing breakfast that consisted of yummy pancakes and eggs with refreshing piña chicha! After that we headed out to our first destination of the day, Desde el hotel del la comunidad de Santa Ana! There we met Environmental Conservationist Volunteers, Julia and José. With them we all did an introduction circle where we stated our name and something we’ve enjoyed so far about Panama. Most people agreed with each other on the Scenery/Greenery & the welcoming communities. Then Julia gave us a quick tour of the facilities around the school such as church, health center, convenience store, and a recycling center that was built by Global Glimpse in the previous years. Throughout the tour we saw and said, “Hola!” to the Santa Ana students as they waved to us!!

The main objective of being at Santa Ana was to get a preview of what our three CAP (community action project) days are going to look like. We were introduced to the space we are going to be working with for the CAP days, which is going to be the creation of garden beds for the students to plant their own unique plants. There we got information on what the final product should look like along with ideas from the Glimpsers themselves. We also went through the materials needed for the entirety of the project that will be executed throughout our CAP days. During this time, we saw ~2-4 grasshoppers that intrigued our attention due to their vibrant colors!! Then we said our not so final goodbyes to Julia and Jose, got on the bus, and headed back to the hotel!

Before taking the trip to the market Julia came back to watch the Glimpsers present the overview of how we want the CAP days to look like. After the whole presentation finished we got feedback on the material we needed for the project and answers to any questions that we were confused on. Then as a group we finalized the list of materials that are  needed for all 3 CAP days. After our  tiny meeting we had an amazing and delicious dinner provided by our sweet hotel cooks, Janet, Laurice, and Alejandro. Later on, we went an an excursion to the store and collected all of the materials that we the Glimpsers would be needing for all 3 CAP days.

To end the night off we had our nightly meeting where we had a group discussion on our daily quote and question of the day. Then we got the honor of presenting day 5 LDD’s and passed them the torch. We let them show off their talents and stepped down from our thrones as leaders. We appreciated leading our fellow glimpsers on a day focused on sustainable development. Thank you so much for letting us lead such an amazing and eccentric group of Glimpsers. This was Marely and Donnie; Peace Out!!
