Introduction: Jessica Rosenberg (GGL)

Hello students and families!  My name is Jessica (she/her), and I am one of your co-leaders to Constanza this summer.  I am very excited for our trip and am looking forward to getting to know each of you as we travel and explore together.

I currently live in Chicago and have been a special educator for almost a decade working in CPS and the suburbs.  This year, I took a break from classroom teaching and went back to school to pursue a PhD in Policy Studies in Urban Education and Gender and Women’s Studies.  Three more years to go…

When I’m not in school, I am usually riding my bike, roller skating, or running along the 606, reading historical fiction, experimenting in the kitchen, or spending time with friends and family.  I also love animals, coffee, and speaking Spanish—if anyone is interested in practicing on our trip, vamanos!

This will be my first trip to the Dominican Republic, but my second time as a GG trip leader.  I came to Global Glimpse after hearing about it from my nephew, who went to Trurrialba with GG previously. I saw the positive impact his trip had on him in terms of building his confidence, expanding his perspectives, and sparking his interest in environmental conservation.  I, too, studied abroad and after reflecting on my own experiences and the lasting effects they had on me, I decided to apply to GG and facilitate this life-changing experience for others.

I am also passionate about connecting with new people and being of service to others. During our trip, in addition to trying new foods and (hopefully) learning bachata, I am looking forward to Community Day, when we will have the opportunity to build relationships with local community members and learn from their experiences. I am also excited to contribute to our CAP project and support the community’s sustainability efforts in a meaningful way.

There is a whole world outside of the communities we live in and it is my hope that your hearts and horizons will be expanded over the 11 days we will be in Constanza.  I look forward to enjoying the experience with you!
