INTRODUCTION BLOG!!

Helloo to the JA1B delegation!!

My name is Sophia Riray and I attend Pittsburg High School in Pittsburg, California. I enjoy listening to music and playing Roblox! Some of my other hobbies include collecting Smiskis, playing the piano, and dancing. Some genres of music I’ve enjoyed listening to this summer are 60’s, 90’s, K-R&B, and alternative/indie. A few of my favorite artists have been The Beatles, Rocco, and Malcolm Todd! A tech free way I enjoy relaxing is by taking a nap. When we have downtime I’d like to go exploring with my group! I’m more of a night person but I need to go to sleep earlier. I feel that the biggest challenge for me on this trip is being away from home for so long. I’ll miss my phone a lot initially, but I hope that I can get past that and really be able to take in the entirety of the trip. To the group dynamic I hope I can bring the energy and be the hype man!

As to how I’m feeling, I’m thrilled to be traveling this summer with Global Glimpse to the Dominican Republic! But I will admit I’m a little bit nervous and scared to be away from home without my family, as well as the language barrier. But I do hope to practice my Spanish a bit with the locals. Nonetheless, I am grateful for this opportunity to be exploring a new country with my group! From this trip, I hope to gain perspective as to how people in the Dominican Republic live their day-to-day lives, what connections their communities hold with one another, and what traditions they carry out and are willing to share with us!

Overall, I’m looking forward to seeing everybody at the airport on Tuesday and hopefully we can become friends and support each other! 😀
