history day

Today was History Day, and we started our morning with a delicious breakfast. The students had cereal with milk, different options for everyone, and some fresh and tasty fruits. 🍓🍌

At 9:00, we started with our one-on-ones, where we got to know the students a little better, learned about their expectations, and reviewed their Med Forms to make sure everything was accurate and to see if they wanted to add anything.

After that, we had our Safety and Culture Seminar, where we also finished some important topics from yesterday’s Welcome to the Accommodation seminar.

Then, the students had a little free time before enjoying a delicious Dominican lunch. Today, they got to try La Bandera, one of the most traditional meals in the Dominican Republic: rice, beans, chicken, salad, arepitas, and avocado. It was absolutely delicious! 🇩🇴🍗🥑

After lunch and another little bit of free time, we headed out for our City Tour.

Our first stop was the fire station, where the students learned about the facilities, met the firefighters, and got to see the equipment and tools they use to respond to fires and other emergencies. They even had some demonstrations, and the students really enjoyed the experience. 🚒

Then, we continued our tour around Jarabacoa. We visited the City Hall, where the students learned a little more about the history of the town. After that, we stopped at the supermarket and then went to the park, where they had the chance to try Helados Ivonne, a very popular and delicious local ice cream from Jarabacoa. 🍦

The students got to choose their favorite flavors and enjoy some time together before heading back to the Peace House.

Once we arrived, they had some free time, and then we had our Center Reflection. The students talked about their first impressions of the Dominican Republic and divided into groups to share and exchange their thoughts and experiences with one another.

After that, they had some more free time before dinner. And dinner was another big hit! We had spaghetti with red sauce and white sauce, and everyone really enjoyed it. 🍝

Finally, we ended our day with our Night Meeting. All the students participated, interacted with each other, and had a great time reflecting on everything we experienced today.

It was such a full and meaningful day, filled with culture, history, learning, and lots of fun. ❤️🇩🇴
