Hi! My name is Devin, and I come from Cali, as I’m sure a good number of you do, too. I haven’t travelled very many places yet—only NYC and Vancouver—so I’m pretty excited to get out there and see a bit more of the world. The Dominican Republic sounds fun and enriching to me. I want to make new friends and learn new things, so this opportunity is exemplary; I hope to make some lasting connections! I’m not one to be afraid of getting my hands dirty, either, so I have no doubt I can handle the community service work we’ll be undertaking.
A little bit about me, I am 16 and a rising senior at Berkeley High. Take your pick for pronouns; I don’t really care. I’ve been living in California my whole life. Some things that interest me are videogames, a good psychological fiction novel, language, punk rock, and drawing. I do pretty good in school, though it can be a struggle for me to complete the day to day assignments.
Something that is really important to me is my sports crew, the rough riders. Just the end of this school year I was promoted to captain of the Rough Riders dragon boating team along with my co-captain Nat. We are a team comprised of any and all East Bay highschoolers that want to take up the mantra. Initially, I was in it for free P.E. credit at first, but I crew to really love the community that I joined as a freshman, and now, years later, I am dedicated. I find my position on the team pushing my leadership skills forward everyday.
Let’s all have a great time on this trip! My expectations are high. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you.
-peace
