Hello, Global Glimpse families!
This is Mr. Manzo and Ms. Elizabeth, checking in from Panama! We are happy to report that everyone had another successful day, and your Glimpsers are doing an amazing job embracing every new experience that comes their way.
Our day began with a visit to one of Panama’s most famous landmarks, the Panama Canal. Before exploring the canal, we watched a fascinating documentary narrated by Morgan Freeman, which shared the incredible story behind its construction, the challenges faced by the thousands of workers who built it, and the lasting impact the canal continues to have on the world today. It was a great way for students to understand the significance of what they were about to experience before seeing it with their own eyes. Watching massive ships pass through the locks was something many of us had only seen in pictures or videos, making it an unforgettable moment for everyone.
After our visit, we boarded the bus and traveled to Chitré, where we’ll be spending the next several days. The drive gave students a chance to relax, enjoy the beautiful scenery, listen to music, play games, talk with one another, and even catch up on a little sleep. We arrived safely, got settled into our accommodations, and everyone is adjusting well to our new home.
Today was also extra special because we had the opportunity to celebrate one of our very own Glimpsers, Julia, on her 17th birthday! 🎉 It was a fun moment for the group to come together, celebrate her, and make sure she felt the Global Glimpse love, even while being away from home. Happy Birthday again, Julia! We hope it was a birthday to remember.
One thing we’ve especially enjoyed watching over the past couple of days is how quickly this group is coming together. Students are introducing themselves to people they didn’t know before, stepping outside of their comfort zones, asking thoughtful questions, and supporting one another throughout the journey. Every day, we continue to see new friendships forming, and it’s exciting to watch this community grow stronger.
We also have something fun to share! Today, students selected their Student Leader of the Day assignments. Starting tomorrow, you’ll begin hearing directly from your own students as they take turns writing these daily blog posts. Each Student Leader will share highlights from their day, reflect on what they’re learning, and give you a glimpse into their Global Glimpse experience through their own perspective. We can’t wait for you to read their voices and see this journey through their eyes.
To all of our families, thank you for trusting us with your teenagers. We know many of you are missing them, and they are certainly thinking about home too. Please know they are safe, well cared for, and making memories that will stay with them for years to come. They continue to represent themselves, their families, and their communities with curiosity, kindness, and positivity, and we couldn’t be prouder of the group they’re becoming.
