GGL Intro Kel Lowndes

Hello Glimpsers!

My name is Kel Lowndes (he/they), and I will be one of the Global Glimpse Leaders for Costa Rica. This is second time leading with Global Glimpse and second time in Costa Rica!

Here is a little bit about myself. I’m originally from Kansas City, and I’ve lived in Chicago for over ten years now. I just finished my 7th year teaching on the north side of Chicago. I studied undergrad at Loyola University Chicago, and received my master’s from UIC. I’m previously taught sophomore English and ESL, and my main area of focus now is reading and math intervention.

Outside of work, I love biking, traveling, and listening to podcasts. This past June, I went on my first solo trip to Lisbon, Portugal. One of the best parts was getting to know the different people there and watching the World Cup on a giant big screen in the town square. One of the biggest lessons I took away from my trip is pushing myself out of my comfort zone (something we’ll all be doing on our trip together).

One reason I wanted to return as a leader to Global Glimpse is because I love to getting to see students grow as leaders and learn outside the classroom.

My fellow leader, Julie, and I will be reaching out soon to connect before our trip. We both have experience leading trips with GG and are passionate about making this trip the best it can be for everyone.
