GGL Claire is ready for this adventure!

¡Hola Global Glimpsers & Familias!

Welcome to the blog page of Constanza, Dominican Republic! Throughout the blog, you will get a *glimpse* into the experiences of our participants. Let’s get to know each other before we spend every waking moment together for 11 days this summer.

My name is Claire De Leon (she/ella) and I am currently a Spanish teacher at Amundsen High School, previously I taught at Clemente in Chicago and at a middle school in Michigan.

In my free time, I love to cook vegan food, play games (especially Euchre), watch terrible TV, swim in the lake, sing, and go on adventures. I am a cat mom of 2 sweet kitties (Maite and Murphy) that I care for with my partner John. I have travelled to 7 Spanish-speaking countries and lived in Mexico, Ecuador, and Spain. This will be my second time in the DR, but my first in Constanza. When I was in high school, I did a program called Amigos de las Americas where I spent 6 weeks in Michoacán, Mexico with a host family and it opened my eyes to human connection in new ways. I believe student travel opportunities are so important and I feel lucky that I get to be a part of making it happen for others.

I am so excited to travel and learn with you this summer!
