GG takes on the Panama canal

hola familia y amigos!

Today was our first morning in Panama and we woke up ready to take on the day. We made our way to the Panama Canal, where we were able to see massive cargo ships heading across the canal towards their final destination. Even though the sky was cloudy, we doused ourselves with suncreen and made sure to drink plenty of water. After watching the ships pass by (some came as far as Japan!), we watched an informative documentary. We learned how Panamanian culture was shaped by the canal and the country’s rich water resources. Morgan Freeman narrated the document, of course, so we felt at home.

Later, we embarked on our journey to Chitre. Our ride to Chitre was filled with many laughs, UNO battles, and conversations about our favorite shows and meals. Once we arrived in Chitre, we had our first seminars and learned about important Global Glimpse policies and expectations that will keep us all safe. We created group agreements with the overall theme of being kind, respectful, and willingness to try new things.

We met the wonderful and kind staff of Hotel Esperanza and they served us delicious chow mein and chicken for dinner, with many running for seconds. We learned that there are many Chinese influences on Panamanian food due to the long history of Chinese migration to Panama.

After dinner, we introduced the newest Leaders of the Day during Nightly Meeting, our first Glimper Leaders of the Day! Thank you Shiloh and Alanna for being amazing leaders and being so courageous!

Tomorrow we have an action packed schedule and will be in bed early to rest up.

Thanks for reading! Please leave comments. We’ve been reading them aloud at Nightly Meetings. Extra shout out to Gio’s teachers and friends for the Big Love! – TESS & KIM
