Fun rain day/environmental Justice

Rain never ruined our fun! Cloudy skies today over Turrialba shifted waterfall plans, bringing our group together in the local museum where we learned about Costa Rican Culture. While we couldn’t eat at the waterfall, we were able to immerse ourselves in a unique dining experience on a train car next to a delicious bakery where we enjoyed dessert. On our scenic private bus ride back to the villa, we were able to meet GGL Memo’s mother who was selling handmade sloths. After a nice rest and shower, we were able to listen to a speaker talk about environmental justice, and engaged in a debate. Following the debate activity, we were allowed free time to socialize and recharge for dinner and our reoccurring nightly meeting where we passed the torch and shared big love. Now we are heading into a kareoke party before bed!

What a great opportunity to learn more about the Costa Rican culture. Glad you all had time together (eating, exploring the museum, and then karaoke). Hopefully you can get to the waterfall one of the days. Mya- I bet you loved the museum and we can’t wait to hear about it. We love you!

It sounds like you guys had another day filled with new sights, sounds, and adventures. I enjoyed reading about your trip to the cultural museum and the train dining car experience. I hope you are enjoying the luscious landscapes as you travel from place to place. Environmental justice is an important cause and I’m glad you immersed yourself in debate where you could consider many perspectives.

We’re suffering from a heat wave (the “heat dome”) affecting much of the country and mostly staying indoors. We could use some of the Costa Rican rain right about now!

Lily, I know how much you love waterfalls and am sorry you missed it. There will be other ones, I promise. Perhaps you shared with your peers about how many waterfalls you saw in Iceland? Dad, Holly, Floki, and I continue to miss you and think of you each day. Sending love. ❤️

What a great pivot! I love that you didn’t let the rain ruin your day. Instead, you made the best of it by riding the train and visiting the museum, really taking the opportunity to immerse yourselves in the Costa Rican culture. Sometimes the unexpected changes end up creating the best memories. I hope the weather clears up soon so you all can enjoy your fun day in the water. Keep making the most of every moment and enjoy this amazing experience! ❤️
