First full day in Jarabacoa

Hello, families!

Today was our first full day in Jarabacoa, and the team had a wonderful experience! We kicked off our “Leaders of the Day” program, and today’s leaders were Henry and Julian. They did a fantastic job helping with food setup and assigning tasks to other team members, showing great leadership and teamwork. Next, we visited the local fire department, where everyone had the opportunity to learn what it’s like to be a firefighter for a little while. After that, we explored the town, enjoyed some sightseeing, and treated ourselves to ice cream. Students also enjoyed hanging with the dog in town who kept following us and we named her Bertha. Students also had the chance to buy snacks and exchange their U.S. dollars for Dominican pesos. We wrapped up the evening with a fun and entertaining talent show, filled with lots of laughter and encouragement. In their down time students played music, cards, and volleyball, getting to know each other better. This group continues to impress us with their kindness, resilience, and support for one another. It’s been wonderful to watch everyone step outside their comfort zones, try new things, and grow together as a team.

We’re looking forward to another exciting day tomorrow and can’t wait to share more adventures with you!
