Final Reflection- Carlee and Michael

Today was our final day in the Dominican Republic. With the trip coming to an end, we spent our last day bonding as a family and spending the day with laughs. In the morning we had our final seminar, reflecting on our connections and experiences during our trip. We then traveled to a waterfall and spent some time swimming and soaking in the sunlight. I (Michael) was able to visit my cousins who I’ve never met before while everyone else was at the waterfall. We were able to go out to eat lunch, ice cream, and get coffee together before having to go back to home base in order to get ready for dinner with the rest of the group. Jhianna managed to get her hands on a guitar and we all spent some time singing along to some songs she was playing. For dinner, we spent our time dressing up to go out to have some delicious pizza with our awesome bus driver. When we got back, we closed out our night with a surprise: having s’mores around a bonfire. At our final nightly meeting everyone was able to share lots of big love; many people were brought to tears.

Swimming at a waterfall, singing, a bonfire – sounds like an incredible way to mark the end of your trip! Very cool that Michael got to meet his cousins, too.

(Can’t wait to see you, Miren, and hear more about everything you’ve experienced!)

Memories of a life time, I’m sure new longterm friendships too!

As a parent, I could not be more proud of my own son, Michael, but also of the whole group! All of your blogs were great and your hard work there inspirational!

Safe journey home!! Love you Michael
