Final Reflection

Today we packed up our things and headed to Panama City from Chitré. We had a 6:45 wake up call to prepare for breakfast at 7:30 and enjoyed a meal of eggs, fried dough, and sausage with pineapple juice. That delicious breakfast prepared us for our final reflection seminar. During the seminar, we got the chance to reflect on all that we experienced throughout this trip by sharing Big Love through various activities. We also created Journey Maps which represented our experiences with Global Glimpse. In our Journey Maps, we shared the highlights of our trip through pictures and writing. We also shared how we have grown as people and as leaders within our Journey Maps. This gave each student the opportunity to connect with each other about what they have learned. Something that surprised us as LDDs was to hear each Glimpser share about how they stepped outside their comfort zone to grow as individuals. We were really proud of seeing our peers connect on a deeper level throughout the activities. They weren’t afraid to share their feelings in both their small groups and with the whole group. This was amazing to see as it shows the friendships that have been fostered by Global Glimpse. One way these friendships have blossomed was through card games, like the one from today shown here.

After our seminar we headed on the bus from Chitré to Panama City and filled out a final survey to give our feedback of the trip. Halfway through, we made a pit stop to a gas station where many of us bought snacks for the rest of the ride. On the bus, a lot of people slept or enjoyed views of Panama, especially when we passed over the Panama Canal. We also enjoyed our group playlist that we all got to add our own songs on. We arrived to the final hotel around 5:30 where we checked in and headed straight to dinner. We enjoyed pesto pasta with chicken and and a very special dessert to celebrate Alexies’ birthday! Despite his birthday being tomorrow, we wanted to celebrate him before our long day of flying. After dinner we led our final nightly meeting, and made sure to go to bed for our travel day.

Being Leader Del Day taught us a lot about communication, commitment, and compassion. While initiating the final seminar, we each got to lead different activities showing Big Love both individually and as a group. This allowed us to bring out our leadership skills to make sure everyone was included in the moment. There were lots of different emotions in the room as we wrapped up our time together, and we made sure that everyone felt heard. It was so fun to make memories with new people, and it’s clear that some life long friendships have been made!
