Day 7: We woke up early and went back to Escuela de Primero Los Cerritos. Here in this photo, you can see two of our Glimpsers, Tiffany and Yazhisai, working hard and helping push the wheelbarrow full of rocks and sand to create concrete from scratch. These were the first moments of our productive day, full of support and creativity to help create our “Eco-Benches”.

Day7: Even though it was hot, all the Glimpsers were working hard. This photo is of a group working on building “Eco-Benches” by placing eco bricks inside and filling the mold with homemade concrete. The process was putting down homemade eco bricks ( plastic bottles filled with plastic waste) and then filled in with concrete. This moment was one of many that helped contribute to the progress that was made throughout the day. All of the Glimpsers had a good work ethic that helped move this project along!

In this image, you can see some Glimpsers working on a little side project for the kids. This hopscotch was an idea to help the kids feel happy, while also having a good time. With hard work and love, this idea came to life and displayed strong positive energy for the kids and the Glimpsers who helped make this type of engagement possible.

This moment in particular shows the main event of our Community Action Project: THE MURAL. This was a project mainly being cultivated by the design team for our mural brainstorm group. After a night of thorough and team-based planning, the design team came up with the idea to depict the beautiful rolling hills in the background of the school, as well as the mango trees, which are a staple here in Panama, their church, or Iglesia in Spanish, which is a sacred place the children said they go to every Sunday. Although there were challenges throughout the day, mainly due to the heat and shared materials, the design team came together and worked through their contributions to make way for a masterpiece.
