Hey everyone!!! Last but not least, it’s your last duo of LDDs.. ERIN AND ZACK!!!
So today we had a wakeup call at 7 am, it was honestly hilarious to get to wake up everyone today. We used a small set of drums and maracas that was bought by Jhael. Honestly, with the amount of noise waking up, we definitely can’t wait to get sleep once we get home. Then after everyone got ready, we had a nice breakfast today at 8 am, which contained…PANCAKES. We honestly thought we weren’t going to see pancakes again until we got back to the States.
Immediately after, we began a heart touching 3 hour meeting for our closing trip reflection since it is our last full day here in D.R. From this meeting, we honestly learned so much about each other on both a personal and individual level and it was honestly a great experience getting to sit down and speak to all of my peers for some time and share compliments and experiences from our PC’s to reflect on what we want to continue doing after this trip. Shortly after, we wrote some postcards to Global Glimpse donors to thank them for their support in making this trip for us and other students possible. This didn’t take long, but we were so motivated to get ready to go on a hike to a waterfall at Salto Baiguate. Once we arrived at Salto Baiguate, it was quite a mix between a stairmaster-type of climb and a decently long walk, where we all had fun swimming, taking photos, and overall spending time together within the water.
After all of the fun in the water, we left around 4:30ish and got here at about 5 on the dot. We all got ready to have dinner at this fancy pizza place. But, before this, we had a really small fashion show where everyone showed off their beautifully well-put, elegant, fancy dresses before we made our way to the pizza place, where we sadly enjoyed our very last dinner together as a group. The fashion show was very hype and exciting as we were able to get dressed up after all our hard work. It was great to hear all of us cheering each other on after every outfit reveal.
After we were finished eating and arrived back at the “villa”, we sat through our very last nightly meeting, and then we had a surprise bonfire, where we continued the ending of our nightly meeting. The question left a mark on all of us personally. The question for today was, “How do you think the experiences you’ve had here will affect your life at home? How will you share your new global perspective?”. This quote truly allowed us to reflect on our whole trip together and realize that it is crucial to be so grateful for the things that we have and to let go of some ways of thinking, for example, constant complaining and greed. Along with these heartfelt messages, tears were shed, and it was truly a bittersweet moment for all of us since we all grew such a bond between one another within these 10, almost 11 days together. To celebrate this, we then got to toast s’mores after a very heartfelt and emotional final meeting where everyone shared their loving opinions on their fellow glimpsers to end the night. Now, we are singing, dancing, and enjoying our last moments together before we head into our rooms to start packing up, getting our belongings together so we can leave tomorrow afternoon.
