Day 10: Closing reflection Day

Wassuppp glimpser fam!! Today your blog is going to be written by Mary Carrera and Tristan Williams :3
Today we were leader del día and woke up at 4am! (Thank you Tristan). The agenda today was wayyyyy different from the other days. We had to wake everyone up at 6am and we made sure to wake them up at 5:45 🙂 Today was going to be an fantástico day, Mary and Tristan were so excited to head to our hotel and …(drum-roll please)… To the BEACH!!!
In the morning we knew we had to head out early, so we packed our breakfast to-go. We had Jamón y queso sándwiches with jugo (Apple, peach, and strawberry banana) and cookies. We got onto our bus and were in for a 3hr ride. Half the bus napped and some stayed awake talking about their favorite tv series/anime.
We had an seminar with Kerolle iniciativa, he is an amazing doctor and his misión is to help bateys familias (people/familias that migrate from Haití to the Dominican Republic). They come here for a better life, but it is very Hard. There are homes that are basically a single room and there is usually a family of 6 in a tiny home. They also had dirt floors which isn’t the best conditions, especially for New borns/growing babies. It is a Huge problem if someone was to get sick because it would spread easily, but getting sick is very easy and common. They do not have access to clean water or health care ;( Thankfully Kerolle has helped so many families and will continue to help many more! This seminar reminded all of us the true reason why we decided to come to the Dominican Republic. It definitely motivated us to work hard on our CAP days to help families.
After that wonderful Seminar, we drove over to Lunch!! We ended up at a restaurant that reminded some of us of Chipotle. We got to choose what kind of rice we wanted, then protein, with salad or macaroni pasta, last but not least, frijoles!! We all ate together like a big family and were eager to get to our Hotel.
Eventually we arrived at our amazing hotel, everyone was so excited to see the water nearby and was so excited to head to the beach. When we arrived to the beach we saw the beautiful Atlantic sea! It was super clear and blue, it was amazing. We all swam for an hour, but it felt like the whole day. Some of us hunted for shells, others buried each other with sand, or were fighting waves Lol. After the beach guess where we went… THE POOL at the hotel. We were definitely having a blast all together and playing games in the water, very thankful for this day.
Now Dinner time :p We all had a choice to pick: Hamburgers, Cesar Salads, Veggie Pasta, BBQ wings, or Fish sticks. If you were wondering the majority picked burgers and nobody picked the veggie salad. We all ate with our friends and chatted about our lovely day. So blessed to experience a day like this in the DR.
We are now all looking forward for our next leaders of the day tomorrow! Hope everyone at home has a lovely night and we all miss you!! We also hope you enjoyed your call time with your kids too.

The day sounds very informative, glad the group is motivated for the CAP project 🙂
And going to the beach sounds super fun and soon after going to the beach? Quite jealous way more time in the water than in my trip but I am happy for the group and more so for Nancy, of course.
Overall, as I keep saying, the trip sounds great so far!!!!!!!!

OMG. You guys were up earlier than me. A house guest got me up around 6:30am which annoyed me but at least it wasn’t 4am. Well it was when you all fly out of Newark. 😣
Interesting lesson you all got at the seminar. But I remember living in a one bedroom when Eavan was born and we had to put Eavan in a walk in closet until dividing our bedroom into two rooms. I guess it’s better than 6 people in one room but then again it happen and can help people be grateful for what one has.
And it’s hilarious to see that nobody can escape the curse of Chipotle. FYI I would have had veggie salad and am surprise Eavan didn’t have it. Eavan’s Aunt Shelly would have expected it. Lol
