Hello!!! I’m Ethan and I’m from Westfield, Massachusetts. If you didn’t infer from the name, Westfield is a part of Western Mass, and is about 20 minutes out from Springfield and around 90 minutes out from Boston. My favorite things to do consist of listening to music, watching movies, and cooking. A few of my favorite artists are Billy Joel, Marvin Gaye, and Jeff Buckley; a couple of my favorite movies are Dead Poets Society and Whiplash, although I recently watched Boyhood and really liked it; as for cooking, I work as a Prep Cook at a local brewery, but my interests extend into my home setting where I enjoy cooking and learning the history behind foods from different cultures–right now, I’ve been interested in learning South African recipes, although I’ve become pretty well versed in Latin American cuisines, notably Cuba and its national dish, Ropa Vieja (directly translates to Old Clothes, because the way it’s presented is adjacent to colorful laundry spread out over a bed of rice).
When I graduate High School, I plan on pursuing dentistry; however, I’m still unsure on if I want to apply to accelerated pathways for undergraduate dentistry, or whether I want earn my bachelors in Chemistry before applying to dental school. Decisions, decisions.
This is my first time ever leaving the continent, so I’m super grateful to have the opportunity to experience some cultural exchange before I head off into adulthood. I’ve always wanted to be immersed in another culture, and so I don’t take this opportunity lightly when we take off later in June.
I can’t wait to meet everyone on my trip, as well as my Global Glimpse Leaders. I’m sure these eleven days we spend together are going to be full of the most invaluable experiences, and I can’t wait to live it up with each and every one of you.
See you in June. Cheers! 🙂
