Day six: SUNDAY FUNDAY

Hola from Las Tablas, Panama

Today was our very first fun day! (or what we like to call it “sunday funday!”) The morning started out with great energy from everyone since we let them sleep in. The wakeup call was at 8:00 AM which was the latest one by far even though some people still argued for extra sleep (not possible). For breakfast, we got French toast that everyone seemed to enjoy along with our regular eggs and fruit. After breakfast, we did our daily mental health check-in then hopped on our “private excursion” to get to the beach!!!

Fast forward to the beach, we sat through a safety seminar from our lifeguards on duty. Soon the excitement began to happen, with Brandon, Linken, Dante, Yaslin, Brekhna, Eason, Maykeld, and Alex playing volleyball while others hopped into the PACIFIC OCEAN. But all together, we bonded around one thing today… the pool. Linken and Mikaela both gave pointers to Brekhna on improving her swimming techniques. On top of that, Linken was also disturbing the peace of the water by practicing flipturns and backstroke for his upcoming swim season.”Marco… Polo…” Many of us joined in the great and traditional game of Marco Polo even inviting a little girl who was also visiting this beach. After a nutritional lunch constiting of chicken tenders, tostones, and a garden salad (Sorry Ilka y Leo for eating someone else’s food) a majority had gone for a walk across the beach, writing their names into the sand, talking with one another, and taking beautiful photos.

After finally leaving the beach, people were feeling tired and ready to sleep, but an amazing trio of singers known as Isis, Ashley, and Rebecca were joined by Alex in singing their hearts out to “Dreams and Nightmares” (clean version of course) and made the ride feel shorter. After the ride that was filled with laughter, music, and unexpected singing from a few, we dropped off our things and headed out into town to go join the “Patronales de Santa Librada” festival. We saw COUNTLESS horses and riders heading down the streets from all around the corners. It was a cool expeirence to be in the middle of a cultural event and witnessing it first hand! While walking around town and seeing horses, we also got sidetracked by the souvenir pop ups and many bought bracelets and necklaces to take back home. We then walked back home and ate dinner right away. Ilka and Leo cooked us a delicious heartwarming meal of mashed potatoes, beef, and salad. (Muchas gracias!) After finishing our meal, we had our nightly meeting where we passed our torches over to the next day’s LDD’s.

Now that we have changed over our daily leaders and socialize for one last time tonight on our amzaing Sunday Funday, we wish all our readers a wonderful night and we will see eachother again in just FIVE more days! Until then, adios y buenas noches!

Brekhna and Linken

P.S. As we were walking back to our accomidation, this STATUE of a GREEN COW proceeded to terrify Linken as he walked past it.

P.S. Thank you Linken for being a great co-LDD and taking the intiative every time!

I forgot you must have pretty easy access to both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans in Panama – very cool. I’d love to see more photos of the festival. Jane, I hope you took some! I miss you!
