Day 9: Fun Day

Hello families! Today we spent the day as a group having a “fun day” relaxing and having fun after some tough but fulfilling CAP days. We split our time between the town, buying souvenirs, and at the beach, swimming and drinking pina coladas. Starting our day a tad later then normal at 8:00am, we made our way to Rincon Del Faro (beach/pool) by 10:00am. There we swam for hours in the pool and ocean, until lunch was provided by the amazing staff of the establishment.

At 3:00pm we made our way back to the Villa and showered off before heading into town. During this time, some of the GG leaders and PC’s guided us to some amazing coffee shops and stores. Where we bough some gifts and souvenirs that family members can be sure to look forward to! In town for our final mission as we begin to say goodbye to the amazing town of Las Tablas, we bought a special gift for our amazing cook and host Ilka! Selva Negra cake; which if sounds unfamiliar is better known as chocolate and strawberry cake.

As we began to close out our time in Panama we reflected on what we learned from today. As leaders of the day we had chosen a quote by Tricia Hersey “You were not just born to center your entire existence on work and labor, you were born to heal, to grow, to be of service to yourself and community, to practice, to experiment, to create, to have space to dream, and to connect.” Throughout the day we relaxed and bonded with our group, learning how to be leaders even in leisure. The quote resonated to our group, as we have spent most of our time here in Panama doing hard labor and working outside our comfort zone. The day was unique in the fact that we were able to remind ourselves that hard work and change takes time. Our GG leader Heather wisely reminded us that what we did here was one drop in the large bucket of change that’s needed to make a global impact. The real success of this trip is in the promise we make in continuing to do this work back home.

Lastly here are some sweet messages from some of our glimpsers to back home!
