Day 9: Cap execution day 3 (Nicole & Nadia)

Hello, everyone. My name is Nicole, and today was CAP Day 3. The task we focused on today was gathering the materials and planting the trees. As we traveled to a part of the community of Paris de Parita, we began by finding the perfect placement for the trees and carefully planted them. After doing so, we traced our way back to say our goodbyes to Los Mujeres de Manglar and returned to the hotel to reflect on how we felt and the impact we had. We are so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of a long-lasting community project hosted by Los Mujeres de Manglar.

Best,

Nicole Santillan

Hello all, my name is Nadia, and today I was one of the leaders of the day on the final day of our CAP project. We spent an hour and a half of the afternoon at a dance studio where we learned three genres of dance: Reggaetón, Bachata, and Salsa. Antonio, the dance instructor, welcomed us into his space, where everyone was able to dance and have fun. This was a chance for us as a group to get out of our comfort zone and end our stay in Chitre, Panama with this dance class. One last opportunity for us as a unit and cohort to be one with music and unleash our laughter, sweat, dance moves, and learn a little about Latin American Dancing and Culture.

For dinner, we spent our meal at Los Aztecos, a Mexican restaurant, where we ate and bonded with each other. By the end of the meal, it was pouring rain, even on our walk back to Hotel Rex, but the weather did not stop us from enjoying each other’s company. Many photos were taken, and lots of laughs were had. Being a member of this cohort has brought me so much appreciation and joy, while also teaching me many lessons on life and what it means to be a leader. As our time in Panama is soon coming to a close, something I am taking with me from this trip is what it means to be present. Being present is not just a physical action, but it is what you make of it when you are in a space. To be present is to appreciate the surroundings, the environment, and the people around you. This trip has taught me how to appreciate the mundane and simpler things in life while teaching me an understanding of the world through a global perspective. P.S. If my family is reading this, I love and miss you guys a bunch.

Love,

Nadia Medina
