Day 8: Final Cap Day

Hey everyone! It’s Kalani and Ophelia, today’s leaders of the day! Today was the last day of our CAP project!

We made every second count! Today the weather was finally on our side after days and days of rain. It was hot today, letting us get tons of work done in the morning. We sanded the upstairs room, cleaned the showers, and painted some of the community goalposts and fences. It was a lot of hard work, and we didn’t fully finish, but the group pulled through and put in their best effort. We are all proud of each other and the amazing work we put in! We hope that all of this work that we put in will help the community, and bring some smiles to people in the area!

After we finished working, we went to a vendor to get some popsicles, and they were amazing! After we did that we made a stop at a corner store to refill on snacks. Finally we got back to the base house and some of us took a dip in the pool, which was absofruitly freezing, and Sophie pushed me (Kalani) in. It was an overall amazing day, albeit exhausting, and everyone had a whole lot of fun. We can’t say enough about how amazing this group of people is, and how hard they are willing to work, while trying to have fun doing it.-\

It was so fun leading such a great group of people. Everyone is so hard working and dedicated, I’m so happy with how much we where able to accomplish in our cap project with such a short period time and with all of the rain. The last day of the community action project comes with its own set of challenges but also rewards. Everyone was exhausted after the previous days of work and wished it would be over but we were able to remember that it was our last chance to make a lasting impact and our last time to work together in this way. They rallied, splitting into 3 groups, taking advantage of the clear sky and working until we couldn’t anymore(taking plenty of water breaks of course). Kalani and I came up with new chants that we were able to use all day, mine was, “Oh OH…Phelia” and Kalani’s was, “K …Drizzle!” It was fun to add our own personal touch to leadership and to find a way to engage everyone. I had a blast taking and laughing with my group while covered in rust and paint. Like Kalani likes to say we were, “locked in, in the trenches, getting rich.”

After a full day of work being cut a little short due to the rain we stoped by a local’s house who sells popsicles. It was great that we as a group where able to support a local business and put into to practice what we learned days prior about being a traveler and not a tourist. Trying new foods is what this experience is all about and I’m happy that we were able to put that one on the list.

To celebrate a few hours without rain many people got into the pool and we had fun playing chicken and spa lashing each other even it it was really cold. It was the first time that a big group of us used the pool accommodation and even through it was cold it was to make sure to leave with no regrets. For dinner we had nachos and they were amazing. To end the night we loved our fist movie night so much we ended up deciding to have another one, tonight it was Howls Moving Castle after a vote. I miss my phone but it isn’t even needed in a place like this with people like these and it was fun calling the shots today (the movie was my idea). I hate to say I think I do like bossing people around.
