Day 8: Cement and Shoveling

Hello and good morning, blog readers. It’s Mateo, Joshua, and Jude as Leaders of the Day, and today was a good one. We had a great breakfast with churros, potatoes, eggs, pancakes and more, and then headed out to begin making cement for the floors for the house.
we started with about half of our group carrying buckets of water up the hill – big thanks to them.

Soon after, we began sifting sand in order to make it smoother for the cement, and then combined that with water and bags of cement to make a big mound of wet concrete that was put and smoothed out onto the floor.

It was a great start. Then we made the trip back for lunch.

After we got back from the morning work, we were all starving. After all, we are only human. For lunch, we had fried chicken, white rice, fries, salad, and beans. To us this food was like spiritual healing. Then the group had to go right back to work, taking the bus to the worksite without any hitches.

When we got back, us Glimpsers had to immediately start mixing sand, dirt, cement, and water for the floors and sides of the house. The second half of the day was extremely draining, having to constantly dig, scrape, mix, and lift.

The sound of the shovels hitting the ground was like the sound of perseverance. The sun beating down on our group was symbolic of our will to keep on pushing through this trip.

We finished off the afternoon by bringing down all the tools down the steep hill. This work is the real thing.

This is Joshua now. After the CAP project, we had free time. Most people went to sleep or took showers. WE showered and talked for most of it, but got bored so we started walking around. We had a chance to call parents, but I couldn’t because I low-key didn’t have time because I was the LDD and had to get everyone else to call parents. I wasted the whole rest of my free time because nobody wanted to open their doors to make calls, but oh well. I got bored, so me and a few other people dingdong ditched before dinner. Not much happened at dinner, but we had tacos.

After that, we had our nightly meeting and we basically recapped the day and people gave ups and downs before giving the Leader torch to other people. Then we went to the lunch table to write the blog. And yeah, that’s it.

Shout out ManMan and Mary – Joshua

Shout out to my Ma and Dad and Nico and Ciccio – Mateo

Shout out to mom, dad, Ravenna, Sam, fish, and Camelia -Jude

Hey Jude, I enjoyed reading all the details and individual thought patterns in your blog post! Sounds like a day of hard work and dust and dirt. I liked the one moving picture, in addition to all the still shots. Looks like the work requires a lot of discipline. I bet you’re beat by the end of the day. Looking forward to seeing you soon! Love, Dad
