Day 8: CAP finale

Good morning, everybody! We are your leaders of the day, Myles, Kaitlyn, and Jasmyn. Today we woke up extra early in order to celebrate Cynthia’s 17th birthday! We woke up at 6:20 to gather everyone and go to her door to give her a birthday sash. Soon after we celebrated, we went down for a delicious breakfast of veggie omelets, toast, and pineapple juice. We then had our daily health check-in and headed off to finish up our work at the school!

Once we arrived at the school, we split into 3 groups: one to fix up the paintwork, another to start preparing the gravel drainage system, and the third to put up the shade screen. Quickly after the paint was done, they began to rinse off the concrete to place the picnic tables.

We joined the students during their music class, and they showed us a traditional piece by a very talented student who attended the school. They then decided to come together to sing Cynthia happy birthday. which was a great present from the students. We then asked that class to place their handprints with the leftover paint we had to create a very special piece. (got attacked by grasshopper in photo above)

(grasshopper in question)

We then wrapped up our final cap day and finally finished up and took lots of pictures, and the students wrote us all thank-you letters, which was so sweet of them. Camillia also went and bought them lots of toys and soccer balls for them to play with. They were so appreciative and excited!

After getting back to the hotel we wrote letters of appriciation to some of our donors to show how much they impacted us through donations for this trip!

At 4: 30 we went to a dance class! We had a very enthusiastic dance teacher who taught us salsa, line dancing, and borracha, etc. It was a lot of fun to see some traditional Panamanian dances alongside our not-so-great dance skills. This was a great class after all of the hard work we have done over the last 3 days. It got everyone excited and ready to head out for dinner.

For dinner, we walked to a restaurant called El Aztec, and we had the option the day before of tacos and nachos. everyone had a great time and it was a great bonding experience for everyone to recap on our CAP project and amazing day!

we are all so tired from our hard work, but we are all so excited to have made a lasting impact on the school. It meant so much to us to have done that for the kids. We’re so excited to see how much it helps them with their studies! That’s it for our blog. Thank you for keeping up with our trip!

Big love from Jasmyn, Kaitlyn, and Myles
