Day 8 – CAP Day 2

Hello everyone! Today the leaders of the day are Alicia and Aileen. Alicia woke Aileen up at around 7:11 AM, both ready to start their days excited about being LDDs.

After gathering all the other Glimpsers we headed up to the main villa where we enjoyed a nice and simple breakfast of cereal! The options of cereal were Frosted Flakes, Nesquik coco puffs (donated to the group by Joaquin!), and a topping of granola for the cereal. There was a range of milk as well for all the students to enjoy. As everyone got their breakfast and settled down in their seats arranged of what continent they want to visit, the LDDs reminded the Glimpsers to have all their belongings ready, water bottle filled, and work gloves for the messy day ahead. Then all of a sudden, right before leaving to complete our CAP project, we were given some bad news that would change our morning schedule. The construction leader had an injury that made it so we could not attend to our morning CAP shift. So, instead we went to a small jewelry shop in the city that carried a range from bracelets, to necklaces, rosaries, and even hats from Peru! After that trip we made our way to Plaza Wang! Plaza Wang is a a cheaper spot that carries lots of different products like clothing, trinkets, home decor, necessities, and more. The flexibility of this group and our great leaders allowed for a smooth transition to a new travel than what was expected. Arriving back at the Villa we had a quick seminar that included us writing letters to Global Glimpse supporters!

Now for lunch! At 12:30 we all gathered at the main villa to have a lunch that included locrio de puerco, lettuce and tomatoes, dressing, and and option of lucrio de pollo for those who do not eat pork! This time, Aileen and I (Alicia), had seated the Glimpsers in order of their favorite day of the week! Wednesday and Friday were the most popular days. After our lunch break it was finally time to head on over to the Colonia Japonesa to continue our CAP project. Our task today was to help paint the outside and inside of the house for Doña Nena! We also assisted in sending up metal sheets to the new Maestro who took over. During the Cap project, we got seperated into our four groups. My(Aileen) group had Krishov, Joaquin, Trina, and Joelle. We painted the outside of the house with a very bright green in between 30 minute shifts that would switch between group 1. Group 3 and 4 would switch between working on the inside of the house, painting it with white paint and helping pass on the sheet metal to the roofers. During this me and Alicia made sure to announce water breaks each hour or 2 hours. I also took over Rowling’s shift because he didn’t feel good and made sure to check in with people who were sitting by themselves or didn’t look very energized. By the end of the day we finished the paint job of majority of the house. On our skin was the splatters of our hardwork covering our skin with green and wite paint. Our gloves were colored, our shirts, pants and hats. This day for me was my favorite part of the cap project because I love having a blank canvas to paint with so overall the day was filled with chill activities. When it was time to leave Nacho (PC) brought out his drone and took a picture with all of us standing in front of the newly painted house.

It was now time to tranport back to the villa. We made our way back and were met with a good 2 hours of free time! During that time I (Alicia) had decided to bake a chocolate cake with Stefani. We had some…..troubles…….but at the end the cake was delicious and we had shared it with other Glimpsers and had topped it with whipped cream and vanilla frosting. During the free time I (Aileen) was in the other villa washing my hair and cleaning my skin because I had bright green paint splatters stuck on my skin. After that very refreshing shower, I went up to the kitchen in my villa to eat a mango. Turns out the mango was not ripe yet which would explain the skin being so hard and thick to cut through but even though I still ate half of it cause I didn’t want to waste such a good mango. Around 7:00 PM we had dinner. The dinner was very simple but very delicious. It consisted of mashed potatoes, fried cheese, and fried eggs. We sat the table seating as favorite farm animals which were chicken, cow, sheep, pig, or horse. Majority of people picked chicken and cow because it was a very classic farm animal. Once the seating was done I dd the plating which was one scoop of mashed potato, one fried cheese, and one fried egg. For me the mashed potatoes topped with the fried eggs were so good cause the eggs give it some texture while the mashed potatoes had flavor and was hot so it warmed up our stomachs.

Right after dinner I immediately went to the girl’s villa to check on Stefani and Alicia’s chocolate cake. The question was “How does it feel helping others? Can one person make a difference?” In our nightly meeting after a few minute of practice, Alicia talked about the warmth, bonding, and enjoyment it brought her. For the second question she mentioned that yes, one person can make a difference as it takes another opinion or argument to create a change. I loved her way of rephrasing the question into what it means and what it means to her while providing her response. After questions we did quote. The quote was “Life’s most persistant and urgent question is ‘What are you doing for others?” By Martin Luther King Jr. Luna and Paul, some of out Glimpers and friends said that they think it means to consistently think of this question everyday to think of what change can they make, what impact do they want to make on the world. I loved their answers because thinking of this queston constantly creates a mindset of something to look forward to and something that keeps you brainstorming of “What’s next?” Shortly after, we had Talent show which was when we as LDDs pass the torch to the next LDDs. Tonight we passed the torch to Luna, Laila, and David. They gave us a wonderful show choreographed by Luna, which was a dance to the song “Y.M.C.A”. And that is where our LDD duties ended on day 8 of the Constanza trip! We had a fun time with the other Glimpsers, GGL’s, and PC’s leading the group and bringing the group close together although it was a tough and hard working day.
