Day 7 – Sunday funday! (Gabriel & Daniela)

Hello all! My name is Gabriel, and I was one of the day’s leaders alongside Daniela! We had the fortune of leading the trip’s SUNDAY FUN DAY!!! I consider myself a very energetic person, which is why I was very excited to lead today.

For breakfast, we had ham and cheese sandwiches (with vegetarian options for those who needed it). After that, we had our health check-in, and then we were headed to the water park: Lago Dorado!

We had LOTS of fun at the water park. We all got to swim and go down the big waterslide (I definitely wasn’t scared of it), and there were other activities at the park too! There were 4-seater bikes and big swan boats. Some people went on the swan boats, but I went on the bikes. I went on a bike with Aarin and Mehdi, and we had 2 pedals that worked; we took turns on who was pedaling and who was just sitting in the back taking a break. Let’s just say that I got my cardio in (shoutout to the Tennyson badminton team if you’re reading this!) and I was also punished for all the times I dared to skip leg day.

After the waterpark, it was free time! My friends and I visited a small cafe in Chitre. It seemed like there was only one worker there, but she was really nice and welcoming to us! She gave us a free cup of freeze-dried Fruit Loops, and she made a really yummy mango smoothie. Would recommend! We then had dinner and our nightly meeting, where we passed our torches to the next noble leaders of the day: Aleenah and Aarin.

I would like to thank everyone who made this trip possible because it is a VERY unique experience for me. I’m learning more and more things every single day. Today in particular, I got to show off my energetic and whimsical personality and incorporate it into my leading style. My friends and family back in Hayward definitely know what I’m talking about.

Speaking of friends and family, I have a couple of things to say to you guys! To my family, just know that I think about you guys all the time. I miss you all, and I love you all so much. To my friends, I get reminded of you guys and your support all the time; it really drives me to go spread that love and support on this trip. To both friends and family, I hope you all know that I can’t wait to bother you guys with all the stories that I have already formed on this trip and the many more that will form by the time I get back.

Hello everyone, this is Daniela. Today I was grateful to be one of the leaders of the day for Sunday Funday along with Gabriel! Today we focused on getting a good rest from all the hard work we’ve been doing. Our Glimpsers were able to sleep in until 8 in the morning and had some yummy sandwiches with fruit and a strawberry agua fresca for breakfast from our talented Chef Samy at Hotel Rex! 

We then began our trip to Lago Dorado, which resides just outside of Chitre. Our glimmers took the bus ride as an opportunity to make new connections and create new friendships. Once we arrived at Lago Dorado, we made sure to give thanks to our wonderful bus driver, Don Abell, and went to the area that our amazing Global Glimpse team had reserved! We were presented with the rules of the park, and from then on, the fun began!

Within the Lago Dorado waterpark, Glimpsers had the coolest activities to do to make our rest day even more enjoyable! They had the opportunity to go swimming in the pool area of the park, along with going down some waterslides and riding bikes, as well as going on a swan boat. Glimpses also conversed with each other and played games like Uno No Mercy. As we spent some time there, our bodies and our minds took the time to heal and recuperate from the strain that we put on them. Once we returned, we focused on a reflection on what the importance of rest is. Now I know a lot of our glimpses had some great answers to this question; however, I encourage those who view these blogs to take the time out of your day to respond.
