Day 7: Historia De Las tablas

Hello families and supporters, due to unsafe weather and safety concerns, our CAP day 2 was cancelled. 🙁 Today’s wake up call was at 8:00, and we ate breakfast at 9:00. For breakfast we had tortillas de maiz, (tortillas made of corn), caribanolas, (yuka filled with beef), salchicha (sausage), and scrambled eggs. The food was paired with orange juice and a banana.

Afterwards we were given a choice whether to explore the city of Las Tablas, or to rest at Villa Tablena, for the remainder of our morning. Many of us chose to rest while others decided to explore the different shops, cafes, stores, and a Panama McDonalds. For the people who went out, we were able to explore a new environment, eat new foods, and find a new perspective of living in a different country. We bonded over shared experiences and created new memories that will last a lifetime. At 2:00pm, we all walked to a nearby cafe named La Paulina Cafe. The Cafe offers a wide array of homemade ice-cream flavors, pan dulces, (sweet bread), empanadas and traditional Panamanian food. The owner, Ana Villareal, told us her story about how she started her business and about her eventual success in her hometown of Las Tablas. She talked to us about her struggles to start something completely from scratch, and how her passion for food, and serving her community drove her to want to open her own cafe. She told us “never give up on your passions, if you want to succeed, follow your heart and pursue the things you love”-Ana Villareal.

After the cafe, we went to the Belisario Porras Museum. We learned about the history of Santa Librada and Belisario Porras. It was interesting learning about the history of Las Tablas and how everything was built over time. Overall, we learned a lot and enjoyed our stay.

Today as leaders we learned how to manage time, responsibility, discipline, and ultimately strong leadership.
