day #7 Environmental justice / fun day!

The leaders of the day today were Ruby and Alex. Today we spent our morning on a hike to Las Trillizas waterfall and had lots of fun swimming and sitting on the rocks although the water was quite cold. Once we got back from the hike, we enjoyed a delicious lunch at the nearby resturant along with some ice cream to cool us off. The ride back had beautiful views of the mountains, horses and cows. Once we got back to the base house, we had an enviromental justice talk with guest speaker Profe Fofo. The talk was very engaging and gave us a better perspective of what enviromental justice means, especially to Costa Rican locals. Along with what we learned, we ended the talk with a mock debate with the group split into three smaller groups – a luxury hotel, the local community and the government. Also, for the talent show yesterday, we sculpted a cat from clay we found while digging for CAP day!

Thanks for the wonderful post, Ruby and Alex! That waterfall looks enchanting, and the lush countryside, with the mountains, horses, and cows, looks like something out of a storybook. I’m thrilled to hear you’re learning about environmental justice and how it connects to local communities in Costa Rica. These kinds of conversations are so important. Keep soaking it all in—adventure, learning, and waterfall hikes!
