Day 7: CAP DAY 1!!!

Hola!!! It’s the Líderes Del Dia: Skylar, Brekti, and Athai! Today was another fantastic day, as we officially started our Community Action Project, yay! As tiring as it was, it was worth it in every way possible. But we’ll get into that later 😉

The morning was off to an enthusiastic start, with Brekti banging and singing loudly on everyone’s doors to wake the group up, especially the boys. She gave the girls some grace (thankfully!). Breakfast was delicious and nutritious, and it fueled us for the hard work we were about to get into. As breakfast was finished, everybody gathered their materials and prepared to head out to the first day of CAP (Community Action Project). Once we got to the location of the project, we collaborated on separating the work that we would be doing for the day. The project started a little rough due to the changes in plans that put a pause on our workload. We eventually managed to get a clear plan set out for the day and got straight into working until it was time to leave for lunch at around 12.

Once we made it back to the villa, the wonderful ladies had a delicious spread made for us of rice and beans, pork chops, fried eggplant, and salad, which we ate without any restraint after much hard work. After we had a small break, we got right back onto the bus and returned to work. We were able to dig out about 200 meters worth of trenches in just a couple of hours, and after we accomplished that, we then continued to place the new water pipes and re-bury them. Luckily, we were able to have some help thanks to the wonderful rain showers that passed by, not only cooling us off but also softening the soil, making it easier to shovel and pickaxe at, so thanks, Mother Nature, for the helping hand! Once all the pipes were settled into place, we glued them together to secure them. In doing all this with the help of the community, we were able to give 5 homes, so about 25 people, access to water, which is amazing!! After 5 long hours of working in the heated sun and refreshing rain, we got back on the bus and headed back to relax at the villa.

After coming back to the villa, we all shared how we spent time in the rain and how Brekti motivated us all throughout the way! She was extremely hardworking, shoveling away while we took turns taking breaks. For dinner, we had mashed potatoes, roots, salad, and salami! The mashed potatoes were very soft and fulfilling. After we had our usual nightly meeting, sharing big love to those who put in a lot of hard work, pic-axing, and shoveling. Huge love to Justin, Lucas, and Jhael for being able to break through the hard cement-dirt ground and helping other members out! As well as Olivia and Eavan!! For sweating their butts off trying to make the project get done quicker. Shout out to the ENTIRE GG team who stood through the heat. Within the meeting, we had a pivotal moment that was eye-opening to us all. Allowing us to share opinions and understand each other a bit better–I mean that’s what Global Glimpse is all about!!

As day 7 comes to an end, as a collective, we’re able to brace ourselves for the coming days and the work we have to successfully complete. We’re all so excited to see how the project turns out, and to please the community to the best of our abilities! Líderes Del Dia’s, signing off!

Mamoni and Bapi love you both so much! Especially for giving me and trusting me to come on this trip and do something for people around the world. It’s small, but I promise to do better and bigger in the future! Bhalo theko tumra shobai! Especially Anu!!!<3 – Athai Biswas

To the Sullivans, plus Jayla (give Jayla the link to this :P), missing y’all mucho! I hope Lexi isn’t giving y’all too much trouble while I’m gone to keep her in check haha, but seriously, I can’t wait to see everyone Monday and share the adventures I’ve been on here and the people I’ve made friends with. Give Buddy and Yuji extra extra love for me, don’t do anything too fun without me LOL! Love you guys all so much <3 – Skylar Sullivan

Hey Skylar :))

Reading your update made me feel like I was right there with you!!! The work you and your team are doing, digging trenches, laying water pipes, and giving 25 people access to water, is incredible. I am so proud of all the effort, teamwork, and dedication you have put into this project. I am soooooooooooooo excited to see you and hear about all the amazing adventures you had, and see all the pictures you’ve taken!!!

Love,
Jayla 💗💙

Wow. The CAP looked intense. I can’t believe that you were able to dig into that ground. But you’re all doing such inspiring work that you’re bound to eventually break through. Isn’t this what life is all about? Hopefully I got this message in on time (Eavan there are other messages from earlier days that might have gotten in late). Sending messages is like you guys breaking through the concrete ground. 😣

Trying again cause I’m not sure if it went through the first time. 🤪

In order to make up for past mistakes with posting, I’ll send another one having looked through the pics again. Totally blown away by the amount of hard work that you all did with your picks and shovels. Unbelievable. Puts your doing of household chores back in the States into a clearer perspective. ☺️

I keep making the connection but this CAP project is so similar to mine is fun to notice!! 🙂

Also Nancy have you read any pages Imposter Syndrome 🤨

I know you can’t respond but just a reminder.. if you even brought it on the trip that is.

Anyway again I hope you’re having a lot of fun!!! And that working in the heat wasn’t too bad or anything .

We miss you a bunch 😋
