Day 6: Sustainable Development

Good day everyone,

Shane and Diana (Us) woke up extra early so we can start banging on doors by 7AM. Then we all gathered at the breakfast area where we had a nice buffet breakfast with an amazing view and took a final photo before leaving the very nice hotel.

Then we hopped in the bus and had a 3 and a half hour ride where the subwoofers in the back of the bus were making everything shake (Thanks to Dani for getting the people in the front to turn it down). We arrived back at the Rancho Ruisenor 12:30 and had a nice lunch with rice, stew chicken, lentils, and macaroni salad. Where we then departed and went to a very nice school for the deaf (Maria Auxiliadora school for the deaf). The school was founded in 2001 with 18 students and currently has 7. During our day at school we first got treated to a snack from Beatrice the principal and Narieliz a partner of the organization (all volunteers do not get paid). We then learned numbers, learned how to spell our names in Spanish sign language and learned some greetings. For our recess we got to play volleyball together, and hit the ball over the roof like 50 times (thanks to Dani again for getting the ball).

We then returned to the Rancho and had free time to prepare ourselves for the cap tomorrow. We then had taco Wednesday for dinner at 7. Shoutout to Ursula (one of our amazing chefs) for getting us hot sauce for the tacos. After dinner we then played a big card game and had a lot of laughs. After our funny card game we had our nightly meeting where we passed the leader torch to Toby, our leader of the day tomorrow. He then taught us more about CAP day 1 (tomorrow). And we headed to sleep early because we have a big work day tomorrow.

Hi mom and dad (and Blondi) the call was fun see you when I call you next because I’m number 15 and it is late in the count (Shane).

Hola Mami y Papi los extraño mucho, los amo mucho. Yo también te extraño Jose te tengo una sorpresa para cuando llegue te amo mucho. (Diana)

Fantastic update!! Have to ask – how hot was the hot sauce? And how did Toby manage it? (Tell him to tell you about his hot wings challenge if he hasn’t already).

Great Blog! Thanks for the update and sharing about your day. Sounds amazing and the pictures are great. Everyone enjoy DR (Jarabacoa), take plenty of pictures, create memories, enjoy learning about their culture, explore all you can, and have a lot fun doing it all. Shane, we miss you and are so happy you went on this trip as it will be one I am sure you will never forget. By the way, we can’t even mention your name in front of Blondi and she goes in your room and out each night. It was so good to talk to you and talk to you soon.

Lisa and John (Shane’s parents) – xoxo Blondi too!
